What should you look for in
Charity Poker?
Appeared in August 2008, Volume I
Ask yourself... what images come to mind when you
think of a Casino Poker Room? If you are like me you'll immediately have an
image of a professionally run poker room with trained staff and upscale
equipment, such as tables and chips.
Your image will also include trained, professionally dressed dealers and staff.
There will be monitors in the Poker Room communicating tournament information to you.
That's what you see on the outside, now what's on the inside?......
What's on the inside are controls and procedures in place to ensure that all cash games and tournaments
are run with the utmost integrity. All
dealers, pit bosses and managers are trained to spot player collusion and
inappropriate activity giving players an unfair
advantage in the games.
In all "Main Event" games, players are not allowed to touch the cards, except for the cards dealt to them.
Players are not allowed to put their hands in the muck pile and they are not
allowed to reach in the pot for any reason. Poker etiquette is strictly
enforced.
Every player sitting in a game run by a Casino Poker Room is having fun, win or
lose and each player knows and feels comfortable that he or she is sitting in an
honest game. Any players attempting to cheat will not go unnoticed.
Now how is this different than how Charity Poker Games should be run???? The answer is
NO DIFFERENCE. There should only be two
differences between playing in a poker room run by a Casino and playing poker
in Chicago hosted by a charity.
1. The casino is always in the same place and doesn't move around.
A Charity hosted poker event in Chicago must move around.
2. In a poker game run by a casino, the casino is making all of the
profits. In Charity Poker, the charity is making all the
profits.
These should be the only two differences. A Charity Poker
event should not be run like a Home Game and it should not be run like free
poker that use to be played in Chicago bars. Charity Poker should be run exactly like
poker games run in a Casino. Yes, there are strict requirements enforced by the
Illinois Department of Revenue in how Charity poker events must be run and
managed, but those requirements can be followed and still put on a poker event
that mirrors a Casino Poker room.
If you are looking to play in a Charity Poker Event that is run just like a
Casino then Main Event Charity Games is
where you want to play. We provide our charities with all the controls and procedures in place to
mirror Casino Poker.
Our charities host the only Charity Poker Games in the Chicago area that are run just like
a Casino Poker Room. Come out and play poker with us and feel the
excitement! You deserve it!!
